Who says garages are just for cars? AtmosFAN Jeffrey L. has transformed the two-car garage at his Silver Spring, Maryland, home into a bone-a-fide dance party. Here’s to “raising the roof” this Halloween season – just don’t raise the garage door!
Sometimes we all need a little reminding. And Jeffrey’s garage door is a perfect reminder of how a little creativity can turn an oft-neglected space into a Halloween spectacle. When he converts his garage door into a massive projection screen, Jeffrey brings Bone Chillers 2 to life – or any other AtmosFX decoration collection, for that matter – in a big way.
And when we say “converts his garage door into a massive projection screen,” what we really mean is “when Jeffery projects onto his garage door from somewhere in his driveway.” That’s all you have to do! After all, as we often remind decorators, a garage door is like having a giant movie screen at the front of your house – and the driveway becomes the perfect spot for trick-or-treaters and other curious folks to gather. And, of course, to dance
“Everyone was amazed – little kids were sitting/standing in the driveway watching the scenes,” Jeffrey tells us. “Adults were asking me how I did it and where I got the materials.”
Jeffery added a clever wrinkle to his surface projection; something we don’t see very often. He projected his AtmosFX Decoration over a Halloween wall tapestry he found online that is designed to fit on garage doors. This gives the Bone Chillers 2 skeletons a different backdrop upon which to dance, and we think it looks great.
That said, such a backdrop isn’t your only option. It is worth noting that all AtmosFX Decorations have display modes with, and without, built-in backdrops. And if you really want to blow minds, there are some “atmospheric” AtmosFX Decorations like Crypt of Creeps, Ghostly Mansion and Hall of Haunts that essentially create dynamic backdrops that can be displayed in conjunction with other AtmosFX characters. There are countless options to mix-and-match!
One more thing about garage doors – you can also display AtmosFX Decorations when the door is open! Some decorators will place their projectors inside their garage and open their garage door. Then, in the opening, they will stretch Window Projection Material XL over the space. This gives them the same size opening on which to project, but the projector is safe and dry inside the garage … and when crowds gather in the driveway to take in the show, they don’t cast a shadow on the screen!
All to say, Jeffrey’s display is a perfect reminder how clever decorators can transform an everyday object – a garage door – into something that will transfix a crowd. By day, it’s just another part of the house. But as night falls, it becomes a window into a world of supernatural fun. Great work, Jeffrey!
