There are Halloween monsters, and then there are Terrible Lizards. In the case of Sally F. of Clermont, Florida, they are one in the same. Except these Terrible Lizards are fantastic. So, too, is the costume on Sally’s home that turns her entire front yard into a scene from the movie Jurassic Park.
We’ve said it about as many times as Dr. Ian Malcolm makes a wisecracking remark in the Jurassic Park movies: We just love it when Halloween decorators create an entire decoration display focused on a single theme. And something that so often sparks that creativity is the Dinosaur Encounter Decoration Collection and the 30-year movie franchise.
Sally uses one of our favorite techniques in her garage to display a triceratops rollicking in the jungle foliage. Instead of projecting onto her garage door, she has opened it and stretched a semi-opaque material like Window Projection Material XL over the opening. Then, she back-projects Dinosaur Encounter from inside the garage. Not only does it allow her to keep the projector dry and safe inside the garage, it also ensures that all those interested trick-or-treaters who move closer to get a better look at the dinosaurs will not block the projector’s beam.
And the way Sally tells it, there were certainly plenty of very interested onlookers!
“It was so much fun to see the kids light up as they approached our dinosaur-packed yard,” she tells us. “With two looping videos going, our house was never without a dinosaur encounter. Movement and sound really made our display come to life.”
As you can see from the video, the second display is that of a tyrannosaurus rex behind the safety fencing (remember how that works out?). It also looks great. But the thing that really makes this display come to life is all the impressive detail Sally created to support the AtmosFX Decorations. We love all the extra detail like the foliage, signage, fog, lights and the crashed jeeps. And maybe most all? The inflatable neck of a brontosaurus peeking through the hedges!
If that brontosaurus could talk, I’m sure it would say the same thing that we are thinking: This is a wonderfully detailed and creative Halloween display. Great work, Sally!
