March 17 is fast approaching and, given the past several years, we imagine there will be some pretty spectacular St. Patrick’s Day parties. And even if you prefer to celebrate the day with your family or a few close friends, either way, we’ve got some great ways to show your spirit. With Happy St. Patrick’s Day Decoration, no matter how you like to show your colors, clever, yet easy, ideas are right here for you.
Longtime AtmosFAN Lee Weber created what might be the gold standard at the end of the rainbow – window and surface projections using Happy St. Patrick’s Day Decoration, along with terrific green-and-white holiday lights.
We think St. Patty’s Day deserves over-the-top treatment. But even if you prefer something slightly less labor-intensive, you can still delight your neighbors, family members and guests with a just a few minutes of preparation. Here are a few great ideas for you.
Let Your Neighbors See Your Spirit!
Window displays are the most common way to decorate with AtmosFX Decorations – simply place Window Projection Material in your window and point your projector at it from the inside. This way, everyone in your neighborhood will be transfixed by your display shamrocks, pots o’ gold, rainbows and more!
Similarly, you can show your spirit by projecting Happy St. Patrick’s Day Decoration on the outside of your house, too. A large-scale wall display on the garage door is perfect – it is like having a movie-theater screen at the front of your house. If the weather is nice, simply place your projector outside and project onto the garage door. If the weather isn’t nice (or you’d just prefer to keep your projector in the relative safety of your garage), open the garage door and stretch Window Projection Material over the opening. Then, simply back-project the decoration onto the material!
Of course, if you want to project onto your house, your aren’t stuck with your garage door – anyplace works! Any location with an unobstructed surface will be great. Go as large as possible – March 17 only comes once a year, after all!
If you want to do something truly unique, here’s a great idea: Create a Hollusion. A lot to people associate projection displays using AtmosFX Hollusion Projection Material with Halloween, but there’s no reason you can’t use that same illusion of projecting on “thin air” on St. Paddy’s Day, too. For instance, when you string-up the material on your porch, doorway or a garden arch, the magic and wonder associated with leprechauns, rainbows and illusory pots o’ gold will be as mysterious as ever.
Deploy the Decorating Disc
As of 2023, The Happy St. Patrick’s Day Decoration includes a new feature – it is optimized for the AtmosFX Decorating Disc XL, a lightweight circular projection screen. That means that when you project Happy St. Patrick’s Day Decoration in Decorating Disc Mode, the image will have been re-formatted to display in a circle.
Some decorators like to hang the Decorating Disc XL in the window on project onto it. It’s a great way to create a dynamic decoration for your neighbors to see without having to cover your entire window. And because it is so easy to set up, you can have Happy St. Patrick’s Day Decoration in your window in mere minutes.
The Decorating Disc can be used elsewhere, too. We have seen others stand it up in their yards and back-project onto it, or hang it from limbs of trees. Inside, it becomes a dynamic focal point that can be set up nearly anywhere – hanging from the ceiling of stairway railings, placed behind the bar or buffet table, suspended at the end of a dark hallway. People who are decorating for parties particularly like to use the Decorating Disc XL because it instantly creates a festive mood no mater where you place it.
Preparing for a St. Pat’s Party
Speaking of parties, if you are hosting one this year, know that many of the decoration techniques described above work just as well indoors, too.
Surface Mode displays, in particular, are a great way to create a party-like atmosphere in just a few minutes. For instance, projecting Happy St. Patrick’s Day on the wall – or even on the tablecloth of the dining room table – looks great during cocktail hour.
Of course, perhaps the simplest way to decorate for the holiday is by simply playing Happy St. Patrick’s Day on your television. It certainly helps create a festive mood. Or, you can go smaller and copy the decoration onto your tablet or digital picture frame. Then, simply place it in a location were everyone will see it – it is sure to draw a crowd!
Lastly, we’d be remiss if we didn’t consider one emerging projection technique that is still in the testing phase: Guinness Displays. What happens when we project the Happy St. Patrick’s Day onto the foamy head of a pint of Guinness? We’ve been doing some testing in the AtmosFX Developmental Dungeon, and have encountered one key problem: We can’t keep our glasses full!
Perhaps some of our clever fans will be able to find a solution. And if you do, make sure to send them to us using this easy submission form. Until then, in the spirit of St. Patty’s Day, we’ll keep testing. Sláinte!
