Last week we went BIG. Now we’re doing the opposite. And good thing, because AtmosFAN Tom S. from London, England, has proven that good things can indeed come in small packages.

Tom has remodeled a children’s dollhouse – it’s easy to notice the eerie paint colors. But Tom gives special attention to the attic. (Where else in a haunted house?!) There, he created a knockout Pepper’s Ghost effect using the Macabre Manor Decoration Collection.
For those unfamiliar, the Pepper’s Ghost effect is a technique dating back to the 19th century that uses a reflection from glass angled at 45 degrees to make it looks as though ghosts are appearing in thin air. In Tom’s creation, you can see the strange residents of Macabre Manor materialize inside the attic.
“People like the aesthetic of the doll house from the outside and tend to say something along the lines of ‘oh that’s really good’ or ‘well done,’” Tom tells us. “However, when I open up the attic and they catch something in the shadows moving, they can’t quite believe what they’re seeing.”
Needless to say, for those who like to create snazzy decorations for Halloween parties, or just to have cool decorations around the home during the spooky season, this type of display is top-notch. It is often the case that the places where people don’t expect an AtmosFX Decoration are always the ones that give the best scare! It is also worth noting that, while Tom’s display is small-scale, the principles he’s employed can be adapted for larger setups. There is no reason, for instance, that you can’t use the Pepper’s Ghost effect on a larger scale or doorways to create lifelike apparitions just about anywhere. And if you aren’t able to create a reflected image off of a hidden piece of glass, don’t forget about AtmosFX’s Hollusion Projection Material – while not technically a Pepper’s Ghost effect, the illusions you can create from the material still creates gasps of awe.
We love how Tom has created a conversation piece that’s sure to intrigue Halloween enthusiasts and casual observers alike!
