We know what you’re thinking: Why on earth would AtmosFX include Hollusion mode – a display mode more commonly associated with scaring the pants off of Halloween trick-or-treaters – in the decidedly sweet Gingerbread Lane Decoration Collection? Well, Troy R. of Rochester, Indiana, is here to show you.To be fair, when most people think of “Hollusions,” they envision projecting onto AtmosFX’s Hollusion Projection Material and creating a holograph-like effect. Often, that’s during the Scary Season, when clever decorators are making ghosts, skeletons and witches appear out of thin air as part of Halloween decoration displays.
But, really, there’s no reason why you can’t also make Santa Claus, Snowmen, and other Christmas-centric characters appear and disappear on Hollusion Projection Material. Even gingerbread families. But in the case of Troy’s video, obviously, there’s no Hollusion Projection Material at all.
Technically, “Hollusion mode” simply means there is no background to the decoration. That’s what makes it work with Hollusion Projection Material, and that’s what makes it work in Troy’s display, too. Because there’s no background, Troy is able to make it appear that the carol-singing gingerbread family is appearing from behind the inflatable archway that sits in front of Troy’s garage door.
Sure, this decoration display is easy. But that’s why we love it so much – who doesn’t appreciate a quick-and-easy decoration setup that is also compelling? And certainly, Troy’s display is a great reminder for all of us that is no shortage of places one can set up an Hollusion mode projection of Gingerbread Lane (or other Christmas-themed AtmosFX Decorations) and make it look like the characters are stepping out from behind solid objects on the left and right. The trick? Just make sure your decoration is in “Hollusion mode” – meaning, the background is turned off.
And also, just because it is easy doesn’t mean that people won’t gravitate towards it. Just ask Troy.
