When you live in Iowa, outdoor decorating can be a battle against the elements. Lori D. of Cedar Rapids found a better way: she brings the North Pole indoors. Using AtmosFX Decorations in multiple windows – including some creative video editing to fit odd-sized spaces – she’s transformed her house into a bustling holiday workshop that keeps neighbors coming back to see what’s new.
You might have seen Edgar E’s video of a few weeks ago – it is one great way to create a massive North Pole workshop at your holiday home. Lori, a longtime AtmosFX decorator and past AtmosFAN of the Week herself, has another way. She deployed Santa’s Bakery and Santa’s Mailroom decoration collections in her main windows, creating the impression that elves have taken over the entire house with their holiday preparations. The beauty of this approach? She can easily swap out which North Pole activities are happening in each room, keeping the display fresh throughout the season.
Of course, if Lori wanted even more, she could add Santa & Company Decoration Collection to the mix – it has three more busy holiday workshops, featuring the same elves and Santa. That provides even more options throughout the season, providing displays that look different every few nights.
We also love Lori’s self-taught video editing skills. Using Magix Video deluxe 2022, she can mix things up and combine images to fit her odd-sized windows perfectly. You can see the results in the side window adjacent to her front door and in the upper windows – spaces that would be tricky to fill with standard projections. She’s also able to create displays to get folks to tune into her FM transmitter so everyone can enjoy the show.
“Living in Iowa, having a yard full of decorating is difficult,” Lori tells us. “Digital decorating has been a game changer. It’s a unique way to decorate without the hassle and storage of large displays. Plus it challenges me to up my game every year.”
