As St. Patrick’s Day nears, none of us should be surprised that a strange miniature man in a funny green suit has shown up to celebrate. What might be surprising is how he got here. And, of course, why he’s free.
Those of you who are familiar with AtmosFX know that the Mad Geniuses on our animation team are always exploring new techniques and tools to create the coolest and most innovative digital decorations. After all, we’re industry leaders for a reason! And, as part of that, we believe it’s our responsibility to understand emerging technologies and computer programs – including AI animation tools.
Lucky Leprechaun Decoration is the result of one such experiment. AtmosFX animators recently explored a new animation tool we’d never used before – just to see what we could do with it. What capabilities does it have? Might it fit into our creative process? Can it help us create decorations worthy of the AtmosFX brand? (Note: Many can’t.)
It’s all about using the right tools for the right projects.
Since Lucky Leprechaun was created as an experimental project using experimental tools, we could have simply filed it away as a “learning experience.” But we had a different thought. Why not share it with our dedicated fans?
Consider it a small way of saying thank you for your continued support as we continue to push the boundaries of digital decorating.
While we’re on the topic of animation tools, it’s worth dispelling a common misconception that AI can make animation quick and effortless – that you can simply tell AI to “create something” and instantly have a finished product. Oh, if that were the case! Even when using AI-assisted tools, our animators spend weeks, sometimes months, refining digital files to meet AtmosFX standards. Every frame is scrutinized, every movement is perfected, and every detail is polished until it’s worthy of your displays. It still takes a lot of time and expertise. And it isn’t cheap!
But back to Lucky Leprechaun. For those who like to decorate for March 17, we hope this experiment brings a little joy to your neighborhood. (Make sure to send us photos and videos of how you use it.) And please know, as we continue into the year, those Mad Geniuses are cooking up a lot of great decorations utilizing a variety of animation techniques – from traditional CG animation to live-action capture and beyond. It’s all about creating the best content possible. It’s going to be a big year!
