Freaky Dioramas Make Handheld Horror

This week we’re exploring the idea that you don't have to build big displays to make a huge impact.

And that brings us to this week’s AtmosFAN of the Week winner: Justin Delacuetara. He’s something of a genius when it comes to creating extra-cool Pepper’s Ghosts effects – in miniature. In fact, Justin created a diminutive witches’ kitchen last year (using Witching Hour) to great effect, earning him an AtmosFAN of the Week crown. Now, he’s back at it.

For those who are not familiar, the Pepper’s Ghost effect is a centuries-old technique that uses a projection onto glass (or other stuff, even Hollusion Projection Material) to create the illusion of a ghost materializing in thin air. Disney famously uses the effect over-and-over in their Haunted Mansion.

This year, Justin built a miniature attic, decaying after years of disrepair. It is the perfect home for the not-of-this-era specters in Ghostly Apparitions and Macabre Manor. The detail is great – right down to the holes and cracks in the floors and ceilings. How small is this effect? You can hold it in your hand!

We love the outside-the-box thinking of Justin’s work — and it is what earns him the AtmosFAN of the Week crown for the second time in two years! For his efforts, Justin’s earned a $9.99 download – and endless praise from all of us, too.

For the rest of you, we have to ask: Where’s YOUR AtmosFAN of the Week submissions? With Halloween less than a month away, we want to see your incredible ideas, both big and small. Show us how you’re using AtmosFX digital decorations and YOU may be our next featured decorator! Send your photos or YouTube links to community@atmosfx.com, and make sure to put "AtmosFAN of the Week" in the subject line.
