With Dinosaur Day fast approaching on June 1, we could not help but to be colossally excited by a video submission sent to us from Mountain Trails Elementary School in Eagle Mountain, Utah. There, to the delight of the students, librarian Sheila Nielson let loose a pack of dinosaurs in her library.
Or, more precisely, she set up Hollusion Projection Material in the library, and then displayed the Dinosaur Encounter Digital Decoration onto it. The display was a part of the Sheila's continual effort to promote reading learning; This particular week the books on display were about dinosaurs. In the future, she hopes to coordinate with her fellow teachers when they are teaching their dinosaur curriculum to really do it right.
She'll be quick to tell you that the low light in the library doesn't make for a great video. But that's not necessarily where the joy is in this video – turn up the sound and listen to the oooohs-and-ahhhhs from the elementary school children. That, alone, is priceless.
And the results were great, too. "The dinosaur display was a huge success," Sheila tells us, "because every dinosaur book in our library was quickly checked out by the kids."
Sheila has been using AtmosFX Digital Decorations in her home for several years – it first started when she saw the Pumpkin Mode display (featuring Jack-O'-Lantern Jamboree) at a public Halloween event. "Watching the pumpkins sing and speak was like magic for my nieces and nephews," she recalls. "I saw the wonder on their faces and decided I had to get the pumpkins as a decoration for my own house on Halloween." She tracked down the event organizers to see how it was done. That's what librarians do – research!
Since then, Sheila has gone all in. She says she digitally decorates for almost every holiday. "On Halloween and Christmas, I go all out and use them to decorate my home inside and out," she says. "For Easter, Saint Patrick's Day, and Valentine's Day, I use them to decorate for family get-togethers."
Great work, Shiela! We love how you use digital decorations to both educate your students as well as to entertain your family! That is a worthy AtmosFAN of the Week effort!
