We’re coming close to breaking the logjam of Halloween AtmosFAN of the Week submissions – and just in time, because we know the Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations will be coming in hot. Still, given the wealth of great Halloween videos we’ve received, how can we not share them?
This week, we head to Dyer, Indiana, to check out Brian Doogan’s Halloween display. As we showed you two weeks ago, projection mapping is becoming a popular way to blow-away the neighborhood. As you can see from Brian’s display, he’s got it all working.
Brian tells us this is his third year creating whole-house projections, and the first doing it by himself. He admits it wasn’t easy. “There’s a pretty steep learning curve,” he says, referring to the suite of programs (Adobe Effects, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop) he used. Still, once he got up-to-speed, the results are pretty impressive. We love how he mixes-in Bone Chillers, Eerie Eyes, Paranormal Passage and Creepy Crawlies 2 throughout his five-minute display.
Obviously, one of the essentials of a whole-house projection is a really powerful projector. Brian employed two. The two Sanyo XF45 10,000-lumen short-throw projectors are protected by a 40”x32”x48" box he built just for his display. It is waterproofed and equipped with 6 caster wheels, marine-grade speakers, a laptop and an FM transmitter (so cars can tune-in when on the street). Brian says the box makes setup and tear-down incredibly easy – he just rolls it inside when he’s done for the night.
And, needless to say, the display is a big hit. “My neighbor across the street has people over and they sit on their porch and watch them over and over,” he says. The neighborhood kids and their parents love it, too. “It is such a great feeling to see people enjoying all the hard work,” he adds, “it really makes it all worthwhile.”Great work, Brian! For your hard work, we crown you AtmosFAN of the Week!
