Here’s a tip for a great Halloween Hollusion display: give the eye something else to focus on. Dan H. of Middlebury, Connecticut, took that advice seriously – building an entire cornfield scene around his Hollusion Projection Material, complete with cornstalks, a stone wall, a tractor, and a hidden projector. The Plague Doctors and Scarecrow appearing in the middle of it all? Perfect.
Dan is a longtime AtmosFAN whose creative approach to displaying AtmosFX Decorations has caught our eye before (check it out here). This year’s cornfield Hollusion display is perhaps his most ambitious yet – and that’s saying something.
The daytime photo tells the story clearly: Hollusion Projection Material amidst corn stalks, with a fake stone wall and gate posts creating a natural frame. A tractor and trailer sit nearby – the trailer doing double duty by hiding the projector. It looks like a bucolic autumn harvest scene. But, at night, it becomes something else entirely.
“We created the cornfield with stalks in the foreground as well as behind the screen, lighted to give depth,” Dan explains. “A tractor, trailer, skeleton and a creepy guy in front. Fake stonewall and gate posts to create screen border. The entire scene was created just for the Hollusion. It looked amazing.”
This is exactly the technique that makes Hollusion displays sing. The Hollusion Projection Material itself wants to disappear into darkness – and when you give it layers of physical props and lighting both in front of and behind the screen, the material becomes nearly invisible. What remains is the Hollusion, appearing mysteriously in the middle of a supernatural cornfield.
On that screen, Dan projected Ghostly Apparitions 4 Decoration Collection – specifically the Plague Doctors – alongside Legends of Halloween: Scarecrow Decoration Collection. The Scarecrow, surrounded by actual corn stalks, was thematically spot-on. But it was the Plague Doctors who stole the show.
“The plague doctors were by far the favorites even though the scarecrow made the most sense,” Dan tells us. “This was the thing we got the most comments about this year.”
