According to legend, the souls of Deadwind Valley’s former residents still haunt the old saloon, gathering every night for a mysterious celebration. Guillaume G. of Lac-Beauport, Québec, brought that legend to life on the facade of his home this past Halloween season – and the families of his community showed up in droves to see it. In fact, they’ve been doing it every Halloween since 2019, ever since Guillaume started creating grand displays with his projector.
The display is called Deadwind Valley, and the story is pure Halloween gold: an abandoned Wild West town, destroyed by natural disasters, where only the old saloon remains standing. Every night, the ghostly former residents return to gather inside. Guillaume projects that supernatural gathering across his entire house using projection mapping and Bone Chillers 2 Decoration Collection.
For those unfamiliar, projection mapping is a technique that uses software and a projector to wrap images and animations precisely around the contours of a surface – in this case, an entire house facade. Rather than projecting a flat rectangle onto a wall, projection mapping makes the visuals appear to belong to the building itself, turning windows, doors, and architectural details into part of the show. If you’d like to try the technique yourself, AtmosFX carries the Illumibot Projection Mapping Kit – a straightforward way to get started.
“AtmosFX has played an important role in our Halloween creations over the years,” Guillaume tells us. “We especially enjoy finding new ways to incorporate their digital decorations into our own stories rather than simply displaying them on their own.”
That approach is evident throughout Deadwind Valley. The Bone Chillers 2 skeletons and spirits don’t just appear on the house – they inhabit it, playing their roles in a larger narrative that unfolds for visitors standing on the street.
“The response from our community has been absolutely incredible,” Guillaume says. “Every year, families return to discover our newest Halloween experience, and we’ve even welcomed visitors from surrounding communities.”
For Guillaume and his family, that community response is the whole point. This isn’t a business – it’s a passion project, built from countless hours of work simply because they love entertaining their neighbors. You can follow their creations on Instagram @ IllumiProjQC.
