Here’s a thought for the off-season: your AtmosFX Decorations aren’t just for October, November and December. Whenever you need an easy remodel for a party or event, you’ve got options. Beth S. of Allentown, New Jersey, proves this brilliantly by turning her den into a pirate’s lair for a themed costume party. With some creative reimagining of her built-in shelves and all three Bone Chillers decoration collections, she created a grotto that wowed her guests.

Sure, Beth hosts an annual costume party that typically gathers more than 140 people during the Halloween season, but who says decorating for themed parties should be reserved for October? Just create a cool theme, and the guests will be all in. In Beth’s case, this year’s pirate theme took over her entire den, and the star of the show was a large built-in shelf area that Beth saw not as storage, but as opportunity.
“There is a large built-in shelf area in our den. We remove the shelves and family photos and decorate the ‘hole’ each year,” Beth explains. This year, that hole became a pirate dungeon. She removed the shelving, added creepy cloth, shackled pirate props, and a tunnel scene setter for depth. Custom-made bars completed the dungeon effect, creating the appearance of a cell buried deep in the grotto.
For the digital element, Beth used her TV mounted in the space (getting the right projector angle would have been impossible) to display scenes from all three Bone Chillers decoration collections: Bone Chillers, Bone Chillers 2, and Bone Chillers: Pirates. There’s enough playful or scary scenes across all three collections to create the vibe you want. And, needless to say, the pirate-themed skeletons were perfect for this setup, as was a black light that added an extra eerie glow.
You can’t see it in the images, but Beth also added a last-minute touch on the back porch, projecting more pirate scenes onto Hollusion Projection Material to extend the theme outdoors. The result? Guests told her displays “felt like Disney or Universal” – high praise for a home party setup.

Beth’s display is a perfect reminder that AtmosFX Decorations can be used year-round for parties, events, or just because you want to reimagine a space in your home. That built-in bookshelf? Could be a haunted portrait gallery. That hallway? A ghost-infested corridor. Your garage? A scene straight out of Jurassic Park. The possibilities are endless when you start thinking beyond traditional seasonal decorating.
