We are always up for a Halloween decoration display built around a single theme – we think the tidiness of One Big Idea forces decorators into coming up with creative solutions to thematic problems. With that in mind, we love what Kristin W. and her husband created at their Springville, Utah, home.
Kristin and her husband are scientists by day, so they thought they’d bring some of their work home for their Halloween display at night. The goal was to recreate Dr. Frankenstein’s lab, with the Tricks and Treats Decoration Collection at the end for the final payoff.
“Most of the props are genuine lab equipment, the audio is reading the animation chapter from the novel, and we sanitized everything to give off the faint smell of bleach,” Kristin tells us.
Indeed, we can see several laboratory tools throughout the display, including microscopes, skeletons, beakers with brightly colored liquids in them, and lots of other stuff we’re not quite smart enough to know what to call them. As for the bleach? That’s a level of authenticity we haven’t seen – uh, smelled – before!
Put it all together and it is a great single-theme Halloween display that is unique, literary and not-too-scary. It sounds like the neighbors were impressed. “We were the talk of the neighborhood,” says Kristin, “and they can’t wait to see what we do next year.”
We can’t wait either! But we do have one question: Did you have to get everything back to the lab in the morning?!
