Consider this our archeological discovery of the week. This 2023 video from Mark D. of Smithers, British Columbia, had been quietly waiting in our archives, and we are thrilled to have unearthed it just in time for International Dinosaur Day on June 1. Mark built a full Jurassic Park experience for trick-or-treaters – multiple scenes, live dinosaur handlers, and one very dangerous velociraptor.
Mark’s display is less a Halloween decoration and more a full theatrical production. Visitors enter through a replica Jurassic Park gate and are guided through seven different scenes, each one educational and interactive. Dinosaur handlers introduce puppet dinosaurs that kids are allowed to pet. Scientists nervously monitor a velociraptor containment situation. There’s even a nod to one of the movie’s most memorable – and least dignified – moments, involving a lawyer and a toilet. Jurassic Park fans will know exactly what we mean.
AtmosFX’s Dinosaur Encounter Decoration Collection makes its appearance at the 3:20 mark, where Mark uses back-projection to create a velociraptor behind a steel containment cage. The effect is exactly right – the raptor looks genuinely threatening, though Mark is quick to tell the trick-or-treaters they are safe. It’s a great example of using AtmosFX Decorations strategically rather than abundantly – one well-placed projection at exactly the right moment.
We love how a single well-executed projection can elevate an entire themed experience. The full six-minute video is a delight to watch – not just to see Dinosaur Encounter in action, but to appreciate how much fun everyone is having, presenters included.
One visitor summed it up perfectly. Mark tells us that a fan told him “this is just as good as Universal.”
