Southern California has the well-earned reputation of being nothing but sunshine, palm trees and drive-thru plastic surgery. But trust us, there’s a lot more going on down there. Namely, there’s two great events taking place this summer, both darker and freakier than a spray-tan gone wrong.
Of course, we’re thinking of MidSummer Scream (July 30-31) and ScareLA (August 6-7) – two wonderfully wicked Halloween conventions, both in the Los Angeles region, both just one week apart from the other. That makes it a two-fer – and for precisely that reason, we are so excited to hanging out at both events.
Officially, AtmosFX will not have an official booth at either event, but we will have team members wandering the aisles in our resplendent AtmosFX t-shirts. We’ll be hanging out with some of our favorite vendors, including The Haunt Store and The Dead Zone, both of which have been AtmosFX supporters for years. We also may be handing out some tricks (and possibly treats) – but only for those of you with enough courage to say hello. Please do!

MidSummer Scream (Long Beach) – July 30-31
MidSummer Scream is a weekend celebration of Halloween, haunts, and horror located in the Long Beach Convention Center. This new show will feature more than 100,000-square feet of vendors, makeup demonstrations, stage presentations, live entertainment, haunted attraction experiences, a screening room, and more.
Guests looking for additional thrills and chills may venture into the Hall of Shadows, a large “scare zone,” with monsters lurking in the dark, and a host of haunted attraction previews/experiences that will soothe your Halloween cravings. Larry Bones (Bone Yard Effects, Inc.) will bring terrifying creatures to life throughout the day via makeup demonstrations on the show floor, and release them into the Hall of Shadows to wreak havoc on terrified fans.

ScareLA (Pasadena) – August 6-7
As the first convention dedicated to Halloween in the Los Angeles area, ScareLA returns for its fourth year – bigger and better than ever!
Situated in the entertainment capital of the world, ScareLA combines the city’s top talent and unique cultural setting with a twist – drawing fans and haunt entertainment professionals, the event features top attraction designers and operators, manufacturers, artists, filmmakers and more. The weekend-long Halloween season teaser celebrates California’s hottest scary faire with attraction unveils, workshops and classes, top industry panels, haunt tours, screenings and activities.
There will be lots of fun, too. Meet Elvira, the Queen of Halloween, who will be at ScareLA in the Pasadena Convention Center. Or check out interesting experiences – like the “Blood Offering: Legend of the Iron Witch” haunted house and Serial Killer Speed Dating.
