While most people put tiny snow globes on their mantels, AtmosFAN Margie H. of Orlando, Florida, is thinking bigger. Much bigger. Her outdoor Christmas display features a massive snow globe that brings Charles Dickens’ ghostly Jacob Marley to life – chains, warnings and all!
Using a clever technique that has become very popular with AtmosFANs, Margie projects Marley’s Ghost Decoration onto an inflatable sphere, creating an impressive illusion of a giant snow globe. The effect is achieved by using the decoration’s Disc Mode, which optimizes the projection to appear properly on rounded surfaces.
The ghostly globe isn’t working alone to tell Dickens’ tale. Margie positioned a Scrooge mannequin nearby, allowing the specter of his former business partner to properly haunt him.
“For Christmas, I love Marley ... so I decided to put him on my snow globe,” Margie tells us. “After all, what’s Christmas without Scrooge? The neighbors absolutely loved it.”
And while it might not be strictly canonical to “A Christmas Carol,” she’s also incorporated Santa’s Workshop Decoration Collection in her window, where a jolly live-action Santa and his animated elves can be seen hard at work. (Scrooge would undoubtedly appreciate how hard they are working, though he’d probably disapprove of their cheery demeanor!)
The overall effect is a charming mix of Christmas past and present, where Victorian ghost stories meet modern holiday cheer. The combination of the spectral snow globe, plenty of lights and color, a mannequin Scrooge, and the window projections creates an engaging display that captures attention from every angle.
