AtmosFAN Builds Community During Time of Social Distancing

A couple of months ago, we showcased a video of a nifty outdoor wall projection sent to us by Amanda Mullarkey. It had everything you'd expect from a quality Christmas digital display: snowmen, Santa and his reindeer – and dinosaurs. (Of course!) That kind of levity was the type of thing that made her a shoe-in for AtmosFAN of the Week.

Well, Amanda and her family weren’t done. With schools closed and large public gatherings discouraged, she was looking for some creative ways to pass the time. “My kids started a bootleg drive-in movie theater to have something special to do with the neighbors during our ‘social distancing’ period,” Amanda tells us.

That was, of course, the same projection setup Amanda used this past December for her holiday display. With a few other families safely isolated in their own cars, Amanda and her family projected Easter videos on the side of her home, with AtmosFX's Dinosaur Encounter and Hoppy Easter digital decorations as part of the previews.

That’s the type of small gesture that we always love to see – little moments of joy created for others in the community, especially in difficult times. But Amanda and her family weren't done.

Amanda’s Naperville, Illinois, neighborhood was also participating in a “Light the Night,” event to show appreciation for all the people in her community who were on the front lines battling the coronavirus pandemic.

Amanda set up the same window mode display that she created during Christmas. This time, however, she used the Festive Fireworks scene from Celebrations Party Time Digital Decoration (Plus Hoppy Easter, too) and added text using the video-editing software Blender. Displayed during “Light the Night,” it allowed her family to give thanks to the doctors, first responders, store clerks and many others who have been working so hard to protect all of us.

If this isn’t worthy of AtmosFAN of the Week honors, we don’t know what is! Thank you Amanda for adding a little light to our night with your clever and thoughtful digital displays. As we all pull together this spring, we love your example of how you and your family have created new ways to support and build your community!

Do you use digital decorations to celebrate and support your community? Especially now, we are looking for reasons to celebrate! When you do, make sure to inspire the rest of us by sending your photos and videos here!
