These Fans Take Football Decorating Seriously

TV journalist Bob Schieffer once said, "the truth is the Super Bowl long ago became more than a football game. It's part of our culture like turkey at Thanksgiving and lights at Christmas..." So, in the lead-up to the Big Game, we present a pictorial of fans for whom football is more than a sport, it is a celebration!

If you're like us, it's hard not to get excited about the big game that's fast approaching. We love it every year. And love 'em or hate 'em, those from Philadelphia and New England are about the most enthusiastic, die-hard, in-your-face fan bases anywhere in the United States. That alone makes this year's Super Bowl pretty exciting.

For the rest of us, there's still a lot to love about the big game. We love the passion of NFL fans – and the incredibly inventive ways they choose to show it. We've always believed there's nothing better than going all-in when it comes to celebrating what you love – and no matter where you're from, or who you root for, these fans certainly show it. We've got three field goals worth of examples below.

We start with what is probably some kind of open-container violation. But we'll ignore that, because it is hard to imagine how you could make your tailgating experience easier — or cooler.

Not sure what this fan's homeowner's association makes of this, but we're in full support! (We’d also like to get the number for his lawn service.)

With the Super Bowl in Minneapolis this year, you just have to know the superfans from the NFC North will show us the way. For example, with potential sub-zero temperatures, it is always good to have a portable fireplace to keep your beer from freezing.

As appreciators of decorations, we love how NFL fans have decorate themselves. We never want to forget those who had been doing so for years and years — Denver's "Barrel Guy" and Washington D.C.'s "Hogettes." Without them, could the rest of us have so effectively dressed up like kooks?

Of course, you can't talk decorating yourself and not come to its inevitable culmination: Raiders Fans!

You've got to appreciate this fan's devotion — right down to the helmet brand name on the forehead. One drawback? If one skips out on an arraignment, as this fan did, the decorations make hard to disappear into a crowd.

We'd be remiss if we didn't also include some law-abiding Patriots fans, too.

Lastly, there's almost no words for the sheer awesomeness of this Philadelphia Eagles fan's basement. This fan should revel in his resplendent glory as he sits on his throne!
